Spartanburg – Michael Bernard “Fatman” Addington, 64, peacefully went home to be with His Lord, surrounded by his family and friends, Monday, November 14, 2016 after a lengthy illness.  He and his wife of forty-two years, Rita Carson Addington, previously lived in Cowpens.  He was the son of the late Claude N. and Blanche Fowler Addington.

          Mr. Addington was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg; he was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, he adored his children and grandchildren and was a kind and generous giver.  Prior to his illness he was a machinist with INA Bearing.  He served in the Vietnam War with the U. S. Army.

          In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Michael Austin Addington and his wife Lisa of Inman; a daughter, Krista A. Jolley and her husband Chris of Rutherfordton, NC; three grandchildren, Mikah Austin Addington, Caroline McKenzie Lawing, and Carson McGuire Lawing;  two brothers, Eric Timothy Addington and his wife Robin, and David Allen Addington; a sister, Rene Addington Halliday; a brother-in-law, Donald Earl Carson and his wife Dianne; a sister-in-law, Cheri Denise Carson; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Tony Marcelle Addington.

          Visitation will be 3:00-4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, in the Davis Chapel of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg followed by memorial service at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Sal Barone.  Flowers may be delivered directly to First Baptist Church.

          The family will be at the home of Austin and Lisa Addington.
