Sandra Elizabeth White Stephens
Sandra Elizabeth White Stephens, also known as Pepper, passed away at home on December 15 after an extended illness. Her husband of 67 years, Bobby Gene “BG”, predeceased her in June 2024. Together, they worked to make a positive difference.
She was born in Spartanburg to Elizabeth Ormand White and Edward Zimmerman White, Jr. on April 11, 1936, and was a descendant of Lt. Col. Henry White of the Spartan Regiment.
She is survived by her four children, daughter Barbara Elaine Stephens (Brian) and her children Jasmine (daughter Avanelle), and Cordelia (Mike); son Edward Dewey Stephens and his children Wyatt (daughter Charlie), Haley, and Marjorie Jane: son Robert Todd Stephens (Julie) and their children Benjamin (Kristin), Harry and Olivia; and son Adam Mott Stephens (Carolyn) and their children Lindsay, Hayden, and Emma. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara Barefield, Edwina Mooneyham, and her sister-in-law June Elaine Stephens.
Sandra adored her Pine Street School kindergarten friends and lunch bunch Ann, Roberta, Vicky, and Francis.
Sandra graduated from Spartanburg High School and Converse College. She taught English at Evans Junior High, McCracken Middle and Spartanburg High. In 1978, she was named Spartanburg County’s Teacher of the Year by the Rotary Club of Spartanburg. She loved teaching, and was excited to hear from her students.
Always kind, she took every opportunity to offer a friendly smile and a warm welcome. She opened her home to many, each important.
Grounded in her faith, she grew up at First Presbyterian Church and joined Trinity United Methodist Church with her family in 1961.
The family is grateful to Spartanburg Regional Home Hospice.
A service will be held jointly with her husband at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to Trinity United Methodist Church Centennial Garden, Trinity United Methodist Church, 626 Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
