Robert “Robby” Joe Bridges, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Born July 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Scott and Irene Bridges, and the husband of his lifelong love, Kay Linder Bridges.
Robby was known for his love for others, family or not. He had a love for everyone and would give anyone the shirt off his back. Besides the children of their own, Robby and Kay raised multiple children in their home. He was a true father figure to all of “his boys.”
Robby was a standout athlete in many sports at Cowpens High School and always wore the number “22.” Because of his influence, any time you see a Bridges on the field or court, you can guarantee they will be wearing the #22. Over 20 members of the Bridges family have already represented the legacy of #22, and because of Robby, the legacy will be passed on to many more.
Robert was a faithful member of First Baptist Cowpens, and a Vietnam veteran with the 101st Airborne of the U.S. Army. He was most proud of his family, especially his grandchildren who knew him affectionately as “Popeye”.
In addition to his loving wife Kay, he is survived by three sons: Chris Bridges (Malinda), Jason Bridges, and Chase Bridges (Sally); a sister, Ann Mullins; 11 grandchildren: Stephen Bridges, Kristin Barney (Pete), Griffin Bridges, Connor Bridges, Maloree Caldwell, Dalton Weber, Mason Fortner, Kynlee Fortner, Tiger Bridges, Chance Bridges and Key Bridges; and two great-grandchildren Harper Bridges and Lottie Frances Barney. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donny Bridges and Rick Bridges.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm – 3:00pm Saturday, January 18, 2025, at First Baptist Cowpens. The funeral service will follow at 3:00pm, officiated by Rev. Nathan Dye and Rev. Larry Lawson. Burial at the gravesite will be private.
