Ralph "Denny" West Obituary

Ralph Denniston "Denny" West, 80, of Pinopolis, SC, retired manager of the Petty-Bobo Funeral Chapel in Spartanburg and Landrum, died Sunday afternoon at his residence surrounded by his family.

His funeral will be 3:30 PM Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2023, in the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until the hour of service on Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church Educational Fund, 106 Church St., Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

Mr. West was born November 1, 1942, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Ralph Drayton West and Marguerite Lavetta Williams West. He was a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wofford College. He also attended graduate classes at The Citadel. Mr. West began his career working at the Department of Social Services and then began teaching at Macedonia High School. He was the former owner of Mitten Plantation Mobile Home Sales, the Moncks Corner Red & White, and was a former insurance agent for Life of Georgia. The last 25 years of his career, he spent in the funeral profession working at both Dial-Murray Funeral Home and Carolina Memorial Funeral Home prior to working at the Petty-Bobo Funeral Chapel. Mr. West was a member of the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pinopolis, and formerly attended St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Spartanburg. He was the widower of Marian Delette Clary West.

"Denny" was a stellar example of a true "Southern gentleman". He dressed impeccably, etiquette was imperative, and he always enjoyed visiting with others. His demeanor was always kind and caring. He enjoyed boating, the beach, and working in his yard.

Surviving are his son, Rush West of Moncks Corner;  his daughter, Rhae W. Dupree and her husband, Shawn, of Ridgeville; his sister, Paula M. West of Pinopolis; his grandchildren, Tyler Dupree and Delette Dupree both of Ridgeville; and his nephew, Dray DuPree and his wife, Tammy, of Summerville.
