Rachel Ann Hopper, 82, of Chesnee, SC, went to be with Jesus on Monday, January 12, 2026, at her home. Born in Converse, SC, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Virginia Turner. She was a loving wife, mother and “Granny Rachel” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rachel was loved by all who knew her.
Rachel loved her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she led a women’s Sunday school class and served in many other capacities. In addition to church activities, Rachel loved bowling, cross word puzzles, and watching game shows. She was a wonderful cook who served many special meals to family and friends over the years. Rachel worked as an office manager at Lawson Hemphill for 31 years, as a library assistant at the Boiling Springs Library for 6 years, and as church treasurer for 16 years.
Rachel is survived by her children, Rhonda Alverson (Bryan), Denise Martz, Kevin Westbrook (Vicki), Teresa Spires (JT), Tammie Blackwood, and brother, Dennis Turner (Beverly). In addition, Rachel is survived by 11 grandchildren: Carrie Pennington, Will Spires (Samruddhi), Kalen Fletcher (Blake), Autumn Baker (Justin), Karmen Alverson, Jenni Lail (Ashton), Paola Bridges (Noah), Jonathan Martz (Parker), Jonathan “JP” Martz (Michelle), Harley Westbrook (Seth), and Tricia Bradley (Nate) and 12 great grandchildren: Brayden Alexander, Braxton Wiley, Brooks Fletcher, Dallas Judy, Evaleigh Lail, Banks Fletcher, Jeremiah Bridges, Eloise “Ellie” Kate Baker, Maximus “Max” Martz, Elijah Bridges, Cassian Lail, and Baby Johnson. Rachel was predeceased by her husband, William Thomas Hopper, her son, Cecil Darren Westbrook, son-in-law, Michael Blackwood, and siblings, Thomas Turner, Patricia Whitt, and Steve Turner.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15th at 1:30PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3PM with Bryan Alverson, Rev. Fred Quidley, and Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial at the church’s cemetery will immediately follow the service.
The family is gathering at Rachel’s home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
