Mary Alice Tucker Carter (85), of Cowpens, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Mary Alice was born in Union, SC on March 24,1939 to the late Jonas Thomas Tucker and Annie Mae Gibson Tucker.
With a life devoted to Christ, Mary Alice was a member of North Spartanburg Church of God, and most recently Cowpens First Baptist Church. A graduate of Pacolet High School, she earned her BS in Nursing from The Mary Black School of Nursing at USC Spartanburg and completed a career in nursing spanning over 20 years.
Mary Alice loved raising her children, teaching Sunday School, cooking, reading and coloring. She was also a member of the Cowpens Garden Club.
Immediate family members include one son, Landon Bud Carter (Ginger) of Spartanburg, SC. A sister, Lena Roberta McConnell of Cowpens, SC. Her grandchildren include Amanda “Mandy” Sherbert, Mayo, SC; Tonya Sherbert Reid (Jon) of Cowpens, SC; Theresa Sherbert Jolly (JR) of Cowpens, SC; Zachary Carter (Sharayah) of Pacolet, SC; Jaime Carter , Pacolet, SC. Great grandchildren include Trevor Sherbert; Mattie and Charlie Reid; Hunter and Carter Jolly; Ryleigh Ann and Greyson Ryan Carter; and one great-great grandchild, Landon Sherbert.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Norris Wynn Carter, her son’s Norris Wynn Carter II, Ryan Keith Carter and daughter, Paula “Polly” Carter Sherbert. Her brother, Alfred Tucker, and her sisters Helen Gowan of Union, SC; Katherine James of Spartanburg, SC; and Betty Seegars of Cowpens, SC.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 23rd, 2024, from noon to 1:00 pm at Bobo Funeral Home, 1860 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with funeral services following at 1:00 pm, conducted by Rev. Daniel F. Blackwell. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood- Glendale Rd, Spartanburg SC, 29307.
