Thomas Jonathan Jackson Bright
(August 10, 1979-January 18, 2026)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Jonathan Jackson Bright of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and honor a life beautifully lived. Known to some as Jonathan and others as Jack, he passed away January 18, 2026. He was 46 years old.
He was a devoted and amazing son, father, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, and his life was defined by his unwavering love, quiet strength and a steadfast commitment to the people he cherished most.
Bright is survived by his mother, Nancy Crews Bright Hendrix, and daughter, Ella Reese Bright, both of Spartanburg, and his partner, Lindsey Crocker and her daughter, Madison Queen. He was the son of the late Thomas Glenn Bright and the stepson of the late Clifford Deyle Hendrix.
Also surviving are brothers: Edward Bright (Kim) of Spartanburg, Stephen Hendrix (Jessica) of Spartanburg, and Eric Bright (Brittany) of Charlotte, N.C.; and nephews: Alex and Hardt Bright of Spartanburg, Aiden and Oliver Hendrix of Spartanburg, and Logan and Bennett Bright of Charlotte; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
As a father to Ella, his presence made life feel steadier, his guidance shaped character, and his love created a foundation that will endure for generations. He led by example with humility, kindness and a heart that never hesitated to give. He always showed his family and friends what it meant to love without condition.
He was known for his humor, with many often saying he was the “funniest guy” they ever met. He also was known for his caring nature, never hesitating to give help when needed, including preparing his famously good food to feed the body and spirit.
Bright was born August 10, 1979, in Spartanburg and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999 to 2008, serving as a recruiter, an administrative clerk and a marksman instructor. He served abroad during his service as well. He attended the University of South Carolina. He was employed by Vyve Broadband.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Bobo Funeral Chapel from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM, at Bobo Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Bryon Inman.
