James Edward Champion “Ed”, 83, beloved husband of Margaret Henderson Champion for 62 years, went home to Jesus on September 13, 2023.
He was a Southern Baptist and faithfully attended Eastside Baptist for 26 years.
He was the son of the late Martin Robert and Odessa Watson Champion.
In addition to his wife, survivors are his children whom he loved and was so proud of; Lisa C. Fowler of Cowpens and Teresa C. Brown (Robert, Jr.) of Spartanburg; and a son, Eddie Champion (JoAnn) of Gaffney.
Ed was Papa to four grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart; Megan Grigg (Brandon), Robert E. Brown III (Shelly), Edward Fowler Jr. (Hannah) and Bethany Blackwell (Austin).
Poppie Ed was great-grandpa to his much-loved great grandchildren whom he adored: Cameron, Bailey and Hudson James Grigg and Alayna and Abbigail Brown.
He is survived by his sister, Norma C. Attaway. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Nadine C. Ruff; brothers, Wayne Champion, Glenn Champion and infant brother Douglas Champion.
Born in Rutherford County, NC, he moved to Clifton as a child; attended Clifton Grammar and Cowpens High School.
He retired in 1997 from Hoechst Celanese after 29 years after having previously worked 12 years at Clifton Mfg.
The family will receive friends at Bobo Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Eastside Baptist Church at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens. Rev. Drew Hines and Rev. Daniel Kuhr will be conducting the service.
