Dorothy Jean Kirkpatrick Trowell died July 29, 2024. She had been living at Summit Hills retirement center for the last 8 years. Born April 22nd, 1933 in Fayetteville, NC to the late John and Lillian Kirkpatrick, she lived most of her life in Spartanburg and Chesnee, SC. She taught kindergarten for many years at Chesnee Elementary while her late husband of 58 years, Joe Trowell managed the Reeves Brothers Textile Mill there.
She was a graduate of Spartan High and Converse College. She is survived by her grandson, Kirk Trowell of Candler/Asheville, NC, his wife Dora and her daughters: Kiki, Lollia, & Evi, one granddaughter, Mackenzie Martin of Spartanburg, a step-grandson, Michael McBride, Dot’s brother, Bill Kirkpatrick of Hendersonville, NC, his children: Jim, Lisa, and Kirk Kirkpatrick, a son, Joby Trowell, a sister-in-law Janet Trowell and several other nieces and nephews. Her family is extremely grateful to her dear friend, Haywood Hamilton, caregivers Dot Miller, Mamie Smith, B. Wallace, the staff of Summit Hills, and Spartanburg Hospice. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Tommy Trowell.
She has been a member of Spartanburg’s Trinity Methodist most of her life where she served on several committees.
Bobo Funeral Chapel will handle the arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at Trinity United Methodist in Spartanburg on Monday, August 5that 1pm conducted by Rev. Ricky Howell. The family will receive friends 45 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at The Bistro at Summit Hills (main building) at 2:45 pm.
