Delilah “Dee” Mae Seay Godfrey Coyle, 84 of Spartanburg passed peacefully at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was born the daughter of Leroy and Ola Seay on February 20th, 1941. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Thomas “Tommy” Coyle, her brother, Henry Seay and sister in law Dorothy Seay.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Godfrey of Spartanburg, SC, step daughters, Janet Shuford(Mark) and Pauline Bell(Greg) both of Gaffney, SC. She also has Rylee, Mason and Brannon Bell as step grand children. In addition, she is particularly close to her nieces Rebecca Quinn(Steve) and Rachel Thomas(Garold) and a great nephew, Wesley Thomas. She also has the grand dogs, Luna and Emily and especially Luna- really was the moon for her the last couple of years.
“Dee” or Aunt Dee was the matriarch of her family for many years. She took care of everyone immediate and extended family-her mother, grandmother, uncles, husband and daughter and pets. Her loyalty love and devotion were immeasurable and endless to all who knew her.
She loved all of her lifelong friends and until recently tried to stay in contact via the phone. She loved her house on Russell Street and working in the yard with Tommy when both were healthy. She always had a snack for everyone dropping by and in particular loved peanut butter cheese crackers.
She was a first generation rock n roller, loved Elvis, Little Richard, Fats Domino to name a few favorites. She also loved to listen to southern gospel, which helped express her love for Jesus. She was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church.
It’s hard to summarize a life of love and sacrifice, she lived the Golden Rule everyday even as Alzheimer’s slowly destroyed her essence. A memorial will be held at a later date. Any memorials should be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or The Spartanburg Humane Society.
