Betty Ann Hammett Lawing
Betty Ann Hammett Lawing, 93, was surrounded by her loving family as she went home to be with her Lord, Monday December 8, 2025. Born September 6, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Ward and Mable Brown Lawson, and she was the wife of the late Jesse James Hammett, Jr. and the late John William Lawing.
Up until her last days, Betty maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, gratitude and her love for family and friends along with her sense of humor. She loved to laugh, cut up and have a good time. Her quick wit and smile infected everyone she met. She was the youngest of seven siblings, and loved telling stories of her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
Betty attended Cudd Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on many committees. She was a member of the Love Class where she served as class president for many years. She loved her Heavenly Father, and it showed in her daily life.
She graduated from Spartanburg high School and worked in the school system for many years as well as serving as a tutor and volunteer. She also served as PTA president and became a National PTA honorary lifetime member.
Her greatest accomplishment was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her pride and joy were her two children in whom she instilled goodness and love.
She is survived by her son Steve Hammett (Evon); her daughter Kim Worley; grandchildren Steven Hammett, Jr. (Kristy), Rob Hammett (Callie), Lawson Worley, Peyton Worley and Davis Worley; three great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and six step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her precious and loyal dog, Sammy.
The family will receive friends, Friday December 12, 2025, from 10:00am-11:00am at Bobo Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Danny Garrett and Rev. Ronnie Norris. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
