Andrew Homer Havko Jr.

Andrew Homer Havko, Jr. lost his battle with cancer on April 15, 2023 at the age of 74 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Kate and Homer Havko, Sr.

Homer was a 1971 graduate of University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He later trained as a Computer Systems Administrator and held this position with numerous companies. He also helped his wife design and build theater sets for USC Upstate and Spartanburg Repertory Co. In his later years he loved to garden, learn new technology, and spend time with family.

Homer is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine Zikmund Havko; daughters, Stephanie Greene of South Carolina and Tracy Lynn McConathy (Adam) of Colorado; a son, Lt Col Andrew Havko, USAF (Lindsay) of Illinois; brothers, Art, Ed, Fran, Jim and Fred; sisters, Biz Chalmers, Mary Goodman and Theresa Testa; grandchildren, Steven Havko (Caitlin), Jason Neet, Tori Odhiambo (Adrian), Brandon Greene, Connor McConathy, Carson McConathy, Gideon Havko, Miriam Havko and Joanna Havko; a great grandson, Oliver Havko and a great granddaughter expected in July 2023.

He is predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Beth (Havko) Self; and grandchildren, Jonathan Neet and Alexis Greene.

He is fondly remembered as “Homer the Roamer” for his sweet, outgoing personality and he made friends everywhere he went.  He will be sorely missed by his family, former coworkers, and friends, to include his Friends of Bill W.

A service will be held to celebrate Homer’s life and honor his memory at Hatcher Gardens (820 John B. White Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC) on April 22, 2023 at 11 am. The family will receive guests at their home (340 Briarwood Rd, Spartanburg) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
