Curtis P. Claxton, Jr.
ROEBUCK, SC: Curtis Paul Claxton, Jr., 84, passed away April 28, 2018 at Veterans Victory House, Walterboro, SC. Born in Vidalia, GA, he was the son of the late Curtis P. Claxton, Sr. and Jewel Wilson Claxton. He was also predeceased by his wife of 46 years, the late Jane Harrison Claxton and a sister, Marjorie C. Everitt.
He is survived by three children: Craig Claxton (Sena) of Greenville, SC, Teresa C. Clowney (Beau) of Charleston, SC, and Lisa C. Edlund (Chris) of Roebuck, SC; eight grandchildren; three nephews: Russ, Richard, and Ronnie Everitt; and his beloved aunt, Melvie Stephens.
Mr. Claxton grew up in Statesboro, GA, was All-State football tight end two times at Statesboro High School, and played football in college at Georgia Southern University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he fought in the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was Regional Southeast Manager with Zurich Insurance for 38 years and was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Parish in Landrum. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a loving father and husband who cared deeply for his family.
Graveside service with military honors will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, Roebuck, SC, with Pastor Noel Copley officiating.
