Rev. Ray Moss Brown

May 8, 1927 ~ July 3, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

 

Reverend Ray M. Brown, 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 3, 2016 at his son’s home and his last residence. 

     Formerly of Boiling Springs, SC, Rev. Brown is survived by his son Daniel Ray Brown (Cindi) of Marietta, GA and Donna Brown Dunagin (Ben) of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

     Rev. Brown was born on May 8, 1927 in Converse, SC, the son of the late Clayton T. Brown and the late Marie H. Brown.  He was predeceased by his first wife Mildred Jordan Brown in 1965, his second wife Evelyn Carroll Brown in 2008, and his brother James (J.C.) Brown in 2007.

     He graduated from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, SC, served in the Navy in World War II, graduated from Fruitland Baptist Institute in Hendersonville, NC, and received an Honorary Doctorate of Religious Education from Antioch Baptist College & Seminary.    

     He was called to the ministry at the age of 19 and served the Lord for more than 70 years.  Starting his ministry in evangelism, he later pastored churches in GA, NC, and SC to include the following:  Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia, GA, Cape Fear Baptist Church in Riegelwood, NC, Peniel Baptist Church in Tyron, NC, Welcome Baptist Church in Cayce, SC, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC, Philadelphia Baptist Church in Calhoun, GA, Jackson Mill Baptist Church in Landrum, SC, and Grace & Truth Fellowship in New Prospect, SC.  He often spoke at Bible conferences and Camp meetings throughout his ministry.   

     Visitation will be from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the sanctuary of Lebanon Baptist Church, 11250 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA.  A celebration service will follow conducted by Rev. Robert McCurry.  Burial and graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 2817 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC.

     Flowers or memorials to the ministry of your choice can be sent in honor of Dr. Ray M. Brown in care of Lakeside Funeral Home, 121 Claremore Drive, Woodstock, GA.
