Ottie R. Hawkins, Sr.

SPARTANBURG, SC:  Ottie R. Hawkins, Sr., 92, passed away September 16, 2017.  He was married to the late Laurene Turner Hawkins and son of the late Ernest Eugene Hawkins and Bernice Warren Hawkins.  Mr. Hawkins was owner of O.R. Hawkins Bag Company, a member of Bethel Assembly of God, and a veteran of the Army during World War II.

O.R. Hawkins “Papa” has gone home to be with his beloved wife, Laurene.  His family will always remember his love for them, his stories to make them laugh, and his love for life.  He cherished family times, especially family vacations to the beach where wonderful memories were made.  He never met a stranger and always greeted or brightened someone’s day with a song.  He was a hard worker who grew a business that flourished across the East Coast.  His charm and charisma were felt by all.  A piece of their heart is in heaven and he will truly be missed.

He is survived by a son, Ottie R. Hawkins, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC;  two daughters, Vicki H. Darby (Gary) of Pelzer, SC and Pamela H. Flynn (John) of Boiling Springs, SC; five grandchildren, Heidi Blake (Charles) of Arlington, VA, Rance Hawkins of Charleston, SC,  Kegan Flynn (Amy) of Inman, SC, Matthew Flynn of Charleston, SC and Daniel Hawkins of Wilmington, NC; three great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Emmitt Flynn and Olivia Blake. He was predeceased by a son, Jerry Eugene “Bo” Hawkins, two sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be 1:30-2:00 pm., Monday, September 18, at Bobo Funeral Chapel prior to the 2:00 p.m. service with Rev. Ralph Jett officiating and a heartfelt remembrance by his grandson, Kegan Flynn.  Military burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with the American Legion Post 28 Honor Guard.
