Leona Henderson

SPARTANBURG, SC:  Leona Suttles Henderson, 96, entered heaven to be with Jesus, June 8, 2017, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.  A resident of Clifton, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Maggie Thomason Suttles and wife of the late Raymond Henderson.  

A homemaker and mother, she was devoted to her family, her church, and her neighborhood.  She was a member of Clifton Second Baptist Church where she was a long-time nursery worker, and was formerly a member of Eastside Baptist Church.  She had the gift of offering special love to children.

Survivors include four children:  Doris (Johnny) Johnston of Spartanburg, Charles (Sue) Henderson of Spartanburg, Polly (Mike) Hembree of Gaffney, James (Kay) Henderson of Spartanburg and daughter-in-law, Susie Henderson of Clifton; a sister, Elsie Wright of Cowpens; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, Fred Henderson, four sisters and four brothers.

Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gerald Burnett and Rev. Michael Stubblefield officiating.  The family will receive friends in the cemetery after the service.
